    "textoCompleto" => "<span class="elsevierStyleSections"><p id="par0005" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Ramsay-Hunt syndrome is defined as herpes zoster oticus associated with peripheral facial paralysis &#40;PFP&#41;&#46; The syndrome is frequently associated with lesions of other cranial nerves and is caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus &#40;VZV&#41; in the geniculate ganglion&#46; Ramsay-Hunt syndrome is the second leading cause of PFP&#46;</p><p id="par0010" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">A 64-year-old woman with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus&#44; hypertension and dyslipidemia was admitted to the emergency department for otalgia&#44; dizziness and PFP that started 5 days earlier&#46; The neurological examination revealed left PFP &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig&#46; 1</a>A&#41; with facial asymmetry&#44; a left eyebrow lower than the right&#44; right deviation of the oral commissure and disappearance of frontal sulci and left nasogenian folds&#46; The left external ear presented edema and painful erythema&#44; along with polycyclic erosions with crusts &#40;<a class="elsevierStyleCrossRef" href="#fig0005">Fig&#46; 1</a>B&#41;&#46; The skin lesion swab was positive for VZV with the polymerase chain reaction&#46; The diagnosis of Ramsay-Hunt syndrome was established&#59; the patient was therefore indicated treatment with systemic corticosteroids and acyclovir&#46;</p><elsevierMultimedia ident="fig0005"></elsevierMultimedia><p id="par0015" class="elsevierStylePara elsevierViewall">Other associated signs and symptoms include nausea&#44; hearing loss&#44; vomiting&#44; dizziness and nystagmus&#46; The treatment consists of antivirals &#40;acyclovir 800<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>mg&#47;5 times a day for 7&#8211;10 days&#41; and corticosteroids &#40;prednisone 1<span class="elsevierStyleHsp" style=""></span>mg&#47;kg for 5 days&#41;&#46; The unfavorable prognostic factors are complete paralysis&#44; age greater than 50 years&#44; hypertension and diabetes mellitus&#46; Understanding this syndrome is important because early treatment decreases the cranial nerve sequelae&#44; with complete recovery in 75&#37; of cases&#46;</p></span>"
